Broadtree Adventures in Education empowers teenagers to create positive change in their lives, communities and world. Broadtree challenges our participants to rise above their limits in outdoor adventures and in group-selected social change projects. Participants enhance their conflict resolution, critical thinking and listening skills- all which enables them to meet challenges they set for themselves while becoming leaders in their communities.
In order to accomplish our mission, Broadtree Adventures in Education:
Organizes ongoing outdoor education and social action after-school summer programs
Engages our participants in self-selected social action programs in order to allow our participants to set goals that they value for themselves and their communities
Creates a link and relationship between the personal skills gained during the outdoor adventure activities to the work done during the social action project
Engages our participants in activities and experiences that enable them to develop a respect and appreciation for the natural and urban environments
Enhances critical thinking, problem solving, and individual responsibility skills, all of which are needed to succeed academically.
Facilitates the development of conflict resolution skills through our activities and through verbal processing of those activities
Works with members of the communities served in order to provide the most appropriate programs for the youth in those communities.
Unites young people from different communities within Chicago who would otherwise not have an opportunity to be exposed to those outside of their own neighborhoods.
